Pictures That Lie

I chose the picture of the smoke in the Lebanese capital because I thought it was really interesting how he manipulated the smoke cloud to seem larger than it really is. The picture was originally taken after an Israeli air raid. If you didnt know the picture was manipulates, you would never be able to tell how the smoke cloud was increased. It is really impressive how he copied the cloud and made it larger than it actually was. The picture was manipulated to show darker and larger smoke clouds to provoke more fear in the people, and exagerate the event. The manipulation in this case was actually very harmful because it is a lie to the public about a serious event that took place in Lebanon. The author of the photography, is Adnan Hajj, and he is also responsible for the manipulation of the cloud. His big mistake caused him to lose his job, and his credibility. When you manipulate something, you have to be careful to think what use it will serve, and how the public will react. To his misfortune, Hajj, didn't consider manipulating such a serious photo would have consequences.

  3. Great analysis! It is a sad story about how the photographer lost his job over one picture. Wow.
